Do I have to have my smoke alarms and dampers tested?

Yes - it is now a requirement by law under BS 9999.

All smoke alarms and dampers should be inspected and tested at least every 12 months by a qualified professional.

Can you work on the ventilation system in my homes kitchen and/or bathroom?

Yes - our engineers are fully equipped to repair and service domestic units from manufacturers such as Xpelair, Vent Axia and Manrose to name a few.

My business uses a commercial ventilation system - can you work on this?

Yes - there's no system too large for us!  We can work on small to large-scale ventilation systems in businesses such as restaurants, gyms, medical facilities, leisure clubs, and more. 

How often should I service my ventilation systems?

Domestic systems should be checked and serviced every 2 Years

Commercial systems should be serviced and filters replaced every year, or as per manufacturers instruction

How often do smoke and fire dampers have to be inspected, and how do I make sure they're compliant?

As per new law under BS9999:2008 all smoke and fire dampers are required by law to be tested every 12 months.

At Hamiltons, we can tailor make a cost-effective service plan to make you compliant, including:

  • Inventory of all dampers to be tested.
  • All Fire/Smoke dampers will be manually released to ensure the integrity of the spring loaded shutter.
  • The Fusible link should be inspected for any deformity or damage.
  • The Fire/Smoke Damper will be cleaned and lubricated within the closed position.
  • The Fire/Smoke Damper shall then be opened and re-set.
  • Any severe corrosion found shall be reported to the client.
  • Test results with client information including position within the building/system, date, and name of operative shall be recorded and any comments noted if further action is required.
  • Asset register to include damper location and ID number.
  • Inspection results including details of failed damper operation.
  • If drawings are provided, update and annotate details.
  • Digital photographic evidence of damper condition prior to and after testing procedures unless otherwise specified by client.
